TEXAS (75-75)
Juan Dominguez gets the call for the Rangers on Tuesday. He was not involved in the decision in his last start against Baltimore on September 14, despite giving up three runs and eight hits in six innings. Five days earlier, the righthander suffered the loss versus Oakland after allowing eight runs -- five earned -- on seven hits in 3 1/3 frames. Prior to the setback against the Athletics, Dominguez had posted consecutive wins over Seattle, the White Sox and Kansas City. He is just 1-3 on the road this season. This will be Dominguez' first career start against the Angels after five relief appearances. Texas swept a four-game series from Seattle and has won five in a row overall. On Sunday, Mark Teixeira hit a three-run homer and added a solo blast, as the Rangers posted an 8-6 win over the Mariners. Alfonso Soriano belted a two-run shot, while David Dellucci and Rod Barajas each added solo home runs for Texas, which notched its first four-game sweep of the Mariners since September 9-12, 2002. R.A. Dickey (1-1) got the win, despite allowing six runs on six hits and four walks in 5 2/3 innings. Francisco Cordero yielded a hit in the ninth, but managed his 34th save.
LA ANGELS (84-65) Bartolo Colon will again try for his 20th win of the season when he takes the mound for the Angels on Tuesday. Colon was roughed up in his last outing against Detroit, surrendering eight runs -- seven earned -- on nine hits over five innings to absorb the loss. It marked his first setback since July 16, as he had gone 8-0 with a pair of no- decisions in 10 previous outings. The righthander is 9-5 at home this season and 15-5 in his career against Texas. Colon has won each of his last 10 starts against the Rangers, making him one of three active pitchers ever to defeat an opponent in 10 or more consecutive starts. He has made three starts versus Texas this season and is 3-0 with a 3.05 earned run average. The Angels captured the last three contests of a four-game series against Detroit. In the finale of the set on Sunday, Paul Byrd threw 6 2/3 solid innings to help the Angels to a 5-3 victory over the Tigers. Byrd (12-10) surrendered seven hits and one run with a walk and struck out six to win for the third time in four decisions. He moved to 5-1 all-time against the Tigers. Darin Erstad and Juan Rivera each drove in two runs for the Angels, who own a 1 1/2-game lead over Oakland for first place in the AL West. Orlando Cabrera went 3-for-4 and scored three times for the Angels. The Angels are 9-4 versus the Rangers this season, including a 5-1 mark at home.
